Rotogravure printing and flexo printing are the main printing methods for flexible packaging. In everyone’s impression, rotogravure printing is of good quality, but it is polluted. Flexo printing is environmentally friendly, but some packaging cannot be achieved in terms of printing quality.
1. The principle is different
Flexo printing: The principle of flexo printing is relatively simple. In flexo printing, the ink feeding device of the printing press distributes the ink evenly, and then transfers the ink to the printing plate through the ink roller. Since the graphic part on the letterpress is much higher than the non-graphic part on the printing plate, therefore, The ink on the ink roller can only be transferred to the graphic part of the printing plate, and the non-graphic part has no ink.
Gravure printing: Gravure printing is a direct printing method, which directly imprints the ink contained in the gravure pits onto the substrate. The shade level of the printed picture is determined by the size and depth of the pits. deep hole,
Then the ink contains more ink, and the ink layer left on the substrate after embossing is thicker; on the contrary, if the pits are shallow, the amount of ink contained is less, and the ink layer left on the substrate after embossing is thicker. thinner.
2. Different characteristics
Flexo printing: Ink expressiveness is about 90%, rich in color tone. Strong color reproduction. The layout is durable. The number of prints is huge. The range of paper used is wide, and materials other than paper can also be printed.
Gravure printing: anti-counterfeiting, gravure printing uses the pits carved according to the original drawings to carry ink, the thickness of the lines and the thickness of the ink can be arbitrarily controlled during the engraving, and it is not easy to be imitated and forged, especially the depth of the ink pits, according to The possibility of realistic engraving of printed graphics is very small.
3. Different scope of application
Flexo printing: because of its exquisite lines and not easy to counterfeit, is used in the printing of negotiable securities, such as banknotes, gift certificates, stamps, and commercial credit certificates or stationery. Due to its high cost of plate making and printing, very few people use it for general printed materials.
Gravure printing: Gravure printing is mainly used for fine publications such as magazines and product catalogues, packaging printing and printing of banknotes, stamps and other securities, and is also used in special fields such as decorative materials; in China, gravure printing is mainly used for flexible packaging Printing, with the development of domestic gravure technology, has also been widely used in paper packaging, wood grain decoration, leather materials, and pharmaceutical packaging.
Flexo printing and gravure printing, their principles are exactly the opposite. Let's talk about letterpress printing first. The graphic part of flexo printing is higher than the non-graphics and text part. The ink transfer roller is used to evenly apply the ink on the printing plate, and then print. Because the non-graphic part is concave, it cannot be inked. The non-pattern part of gravure printing is higher than the graphic part, that is to say, the graphic part of gravure printing is composed of N concave net pits. The ink of the text, because the ink of the graphic part is hidden in the concave mesh pit and will not be scraped off, so it can be directly printed after being pressed by the pressure roller. The principles of both are very easy to understand.
